I like it music video + gig announcement

Hi!

As most of you know, Tall and Tiny began in the spring of 2011. That same year, during winter, we decided to make a fun music video for our favourite song: I like it. Early in the morning, we dragged loads of clothes and camera equipment through the snow and went to class. We sat at the back of the auditorium, with all our bags around us, eager to start filming. After class we dragged everything straight to our rehearsing location, which fortunately, was nearby.

It was all done very clumsily, but we had so much fun. To this day, we cherish the memory of making this music video because it was absolutely a day to remember.

We never uploaded it though. It got edited and everything, but we never decided to share it. We kept thinking we might make a new version of the song and so we kept postponing it. Today however, we realise that the song is perfect just as it is. It's not as 'finished' as our newer songs, but it's a classic! We finally uploaded the video and you can watch it below. We hope you enjoy it!

If you are wondering what those 'newer songs' sound like, you should come see us perform. That's right, we are performing live soon! We are going to play on October 25th @Kinky Star in Ghent. Check out the Facebook event here. We will be playing loads of new songs! If you can't come, you can always keep an eye out for new songs on our Soundcloud. We are going to upload something really soon!

We hope to see you in Ghent!
Love,
Tnt

Behind the Screens: I Know

Hi everyone!

We released our new song 'I Know' on Soundcloud a while back, and we wanted to give you peeps a little insight into the way we write our songs. You see, they go through many phases. Sometimes they get scrapped after a few weeks because we don't like them, and then a couple of months later we'll find them again and suddenly see lots of potential we didn't see before. Our songs undergo many changes. For instance, we wrote 'Simplify' in early 2015, but we've been remixing it and it sounds quite different now. Check our instagram for a little preview of that!

So! We wanted to give you a little 'behind the screens' with Tall and Tiny. We could show you what was actually on our screens, but that might not make a lot of sense to you. That's why we're not going to show you, but we're going to let you listen! Below are some of the phases 'I Know' underwent. We started working on it in March 2016, and finished it about a month ago. Without further ado, let's do this!

1st Version The first version was instrumental and totally different from what it eventually became. However, you'll hear some parts that might sound familiar.

2nd Version This second version is so weird to hear once you've gotten used to the finished one. In this version, vocals were added. However, the lyrics as well as the melody are entirely different. Everything was recorded very quickly, just so we wouldn't forget our ideas. It isn't mastered or decently recored, but you have an idea of where we were going with this. Also, note how it used to be 'Oh no' instead of 'I Know' isn't that hilarious?

3rd Version The third version might sound more recognizable already. We kind of scrapped everything, but kept the basics. The beat was still a bit boring though, and the mix was still very flat. But no worries, we were getting there..

And then here we are, the final version! After weeks (...months? Felt like years.) of mastering we finally felt happy about the song and decided to publish it. Here it is!

So, did you like this little overview? Let us know what you think!

Lots of love,
Tnt

I Know Right?

Hello you beautiful and amazing blog reader!

We have finally released our new song! We've been working on it since... March? Maybe even February! Anyway, it's undergone so many changes throughout the past 9 months or so (it's like a baby), and we're actually really satisfied with the result! Scroll all the way down to listen!

We kind of feel like our music has gone through several phases. Let's review!

Phase 1 - Octopus One

We started out with nothing but a piano and our voices. We created fairytale-ish melodies and tried recording them with an old laptop's built in microphone. That ended up sounding like this:

We also started working with electronics. We recorded through midi and tried some stuff out on Garageband. We also started adding drums, which lead to these two:

Phase 2 - Enter Electronics

We wanted to make more complex compositions, and got better at the computer technicalities. Enter arpeggiators, synth soundscapes and space vibes. We switched from Garageband to Logic and did some live shows to get over our initial stage fright.

Phase 3 - Album Time

With the new recording mic and the Maschine we were able to really bump up our sound quality. Also, learning how to work with equalizers, limiters and compressors has really made a huge difference to the way our songs sound! In phase 1, we would write, record and release a song in less than a day. In this phase, however, we really like to take our time with each song. We spend months sending the files back and forth to each other and tweaking little details over and over again. There is still so much we want to learn, but we are definitely making progress and that's what matters! And what matters most to us is that we still have fun with it, and we totally do! We're feeling really ambitious about the upcoming year. We want to make an album and make at least one music video! We have got so many songs that are in the "almost-finished" stage, so you can expect to hear from us in 2017! It's going to be a great year!

Also, don't you just love this picture? Check out the photographers' website HERE! They make such great and original pictures and we look forward to shooting with them again sometime!

Summertime!

Hi lovely creatures!

We just wanted to post a little update on what we've been up to the last couple of months, because we have been kind of quiet on here. Basically, that's because we mostly want to use this blog for sharing new music, and none of our new music is shareable yet. In the good old days (note: 2011), we would just quickly throw something together, marvel at the fantastic song we just wrote, and share it right away. But nowadays (especially these past few months), what we're doing is writing a song, then changing it a bit, then mastering it for weeks (read: months), then deciding we want to do something different and starting over again, ... You get where we're going with this. So we've actually got a lot of great new stuff, but we're not ready to share it just yet, because you see, when we share it, we want it to be real good! We're also re-editing some old songs like Simplify, and the mix is so much better! Can't wait to share!

So what have we been doing this summer? Making music, obviously. Tiny got a Native Instruments Maschine MK2 which has really expanded the possibilities for us. We've been writing new songs, and been practising on how to master a song DIY-style. Aside from music, we've been enjoying the sun, travelling a bit, deciding to be healthier this summer, then binge eating pizza, then deciding to be healthier again.. You know, the usual summer stuff.

So, what have you guys been up to?

Much love, T&t

Bitches Be Free

Hi everyone!

Since yesterday was International Women's Day, we decided to write a song dedicated to women around the world. It's called Bitches Be Free (because, why not?)! Check it out right here:

Also, Jade got to do an interview about feminism on Radio Scorpio, and our song was broadcast! It was really nice to see 'Tall and Tiny' appear on the radio station's computer, and it's always great when you get the chance to share your opinion on a matter you care about.

To be honest though, we felt kind of weird about this. We've been working a lot on our music lately. And that doesn't mean what it used to mean to us. In the earlier days of Tall and Tiny, we would write and record songs in less than 30 minutes, and put them out there right away. Lately, however, we've been trying to figure out the producing aspect of making music. We're learning about compression, panning, different types of reverb, equalizers, and all kinds of kicks, snares, toms etc. This is taking up a lot of time, and since it's still a learning process, we don't have any finished material to publish yet. The reason we felt weird about this being our, well... 'radio debut' is that this is actually a very 'roughly put together' kind of song, which doesn't represent the sound that we are currently working on. So, we are reeeally excited to share our new stuff with you! And when we have something to share, we promise we'll be on the radio again!

between trying to balance work, school and music (chaos!), we also get together to chill out sometimes, which is so darn fun! We shot some pictures the other day, have a look:

Have a lovely day, and stay tuned!
Love, TnT

Two sneak peeks!

Long time no see! Since our usual excuses of school and work are becoming a little repetitive and boring, we'll just say we were on a top secret mission, wearing awesome rainbow coloured aluminium suits while riding heroic unicorns made out of unboiled pasta. Better?

Okay, moving on! Aside from the above-mentioned, we've also been working a lot on our music! We get together every two weeks to discuss new songs and ideas. We both work on songs at home and send them back and forth to one another for adjustments. We have several new songs for you, and -despite the fact that we ourselves are saying this- they are really good! We can't wait to share them with you!

But, for now, these sneak peeks will have to do.
Stay great!

Love, Tall and tiny

Oh oh oh! And follow us on Instagram. Thank you and good day!

Simplify

Hi everyone!

We had such a wonderful evening yesterday! We played live at the 'Vizit' cafe and the atmosphere and the audience were amazing. So many people came to us afterwards, to tell us how original and cheerful our music was. One person said: you totally cheered me up! That really means a lot, because spreading happiness is what we love to do!

We played our new song for the first time, but for those of you who couldn't make it last night, we uploaded it on Soundcloud! It's called Simplify. You see, a lot of our songs tend to be a little over the top and we wanted to make something more basic. Something simple. But... We failed! And we love it! We hope you like it as well. Please leave comments below, we love reading them!

Thanks for everyone who came, you were great!
To the others: next time!

Lots of love and rainbows and purple hippo's from

ps: videos and pictures of the gig will be uploaded soon!

Don't forget: gig time!

Hi!

We just want to remind you that we are playing live on friday 27/03! We'll be playing @Jeugdcentrum Vizit in Wilrijk (de bist) around 10pm and it is going to be awesome! We just rehearsed all weekend. We had to prep our songs so they would be playable live, which was a lot of work! Also, we've never played a long set like this before, with backing tracks, so we are very exited and curious to find out how it goes! Not to worry though, even when it goes wrong during our rehearsals, we still have tons of fun playing our songs. They are really growing on us...

Reasons to come?

♫ Tall and tiny is the best band ever!
♫ The cafe is super cozy, and at 8:30pm it's happy hour! Bubbles and wine for just 1 euro!
♫ We'll be playing a new song, entirely exclusive, yay!
♫ Because we really want you there! The more faces looking and the more bodies dancing: the better!

Still not convinced? Science!!

Haha, we're just kidding.
Though, you really should come and watch us play.
Like, really.

Tall and tiny's Soundcloud

You uhuh, you uhuh!

Yes you! We wanted to let you know we also have a Soundcloud now! No, it's not some kind of awesome cloud you can carry around that rains our music whenever you want it too (though that would be cool). Okay, now we made the actual thing sound ridiculously stupid compared to that. Anyway, it's just a website where you can listen to some of our songs. Hmm.. How did we get from "Yes you!" to this so quickly? Okay, back to enthusiastic! Tall and tiny's songs, yay!

Lots of love,
Tall and tiny

Ps: if that actual cloud thing ever works out, we'll let you know

New Song: BEEP

Hi you!!

You've been so wonderfully patient! And now, today, just as promised, we are sharing our new song with you! It's called BEEP (and is in no way like that Pussycat Dolls song that goes by the same name). It's really the beginning of a new era for us, because this will be the first song for our album!

We have made lots of songs before this one, and uploaded them on our youtube channel. But most of them just didn't sound finished. The last couple of months we tried to refine them a little and add more instruments, but it always ended up kind of messy. So we decided to scrap our old songs and start anew. We learned how to make arrangements on our laptops and had a lot of fun with it

We hope you'll love it and have it stuck inside your head all day long, just like you did when you heard I Like It in 2012.

TNT out! Beep!

(oh and please watch it in 1080p HD, even though it's just a picture. We hate blurry videos...)

Making of Sold His Soul (Music Video)

Hi you!

Last year, on the 15th of July, we recorded our music video for Sold His Soul. We had it all written out, shot per shot. We dragged along lots of bags full of clothes, makeup, jewellery etc. Jade's dad filmed it, and Elvi's boyfriend Oz starred in it as the dark one (figuratively speaking obviously). The next day Jade edited it and -bam!- it was uploaded on youtube. We made that video quick-as-a-cat but it did take some work to get ever little detail just right. Below are some pictures of the process. It includes us goofing around on the very cool set, which is a gas station in the abandoned town of Doel. However, you'll also see us putting on our makeup and doing our hair. It was a lot of hard work, but also a lot of fun, and we love the result!

Hopefully we'll be making more video's this year!

Tall and tiny's "How We Make Music"

Hello all!

We've been working on our music together, and we wanted to share our ingenious way of doing so, with -wait for it...- you!

Since we live in different cities, and since we have busy schedules, we decided that getting together for rehearsals just wasn't the way to go if we wanted to make some progress. So, what we do is the following (and yes we are summing it up with tiny snowmen, because 't is the season):

☃ One of us makes the base for a new song. (drum track, bass line and basic singing melody)
☃ The file (which is a logic project) is sent to the other.
☃ Then, the other one can make some changes and adds some stuff (electric piano, new vocal line).
☃ Then the whole project is sent back again, and that's the way we do it. Back and forth, back and forth!

See, in order to be able to work this way, you really need to get along well, and fortunately, we do! We are very honest with each other about our projects. If one of us adds something to the song that the other one hates, it's easier to be honest about it and change it, instead of being grumpy about it and not liking your own song anymore. Best thing is, this actually rarely happens. =)

What's wonderful about this way of making music, is that whenever either one of us is feeling 'stuck' (you know, writer's block) we can just send it to each other. Also, you get such fun things if you work together, yet apart. We keep surprising each other with new lyrics or new riffs and it's really exciting to receive an updated version of a song through WeTransfer, because we never know what we're going to get!

So, that's what we wanted to share! Do you think you would like making music this way?
And, nostalgic as we are sometimes, here are some pictures of us rehearsing and playing together!

Love,
Tall and tiny

New Song - Sneak Peek

Hi!

In between all other posts, we'd like to remind you of the fact that we are still making music. It might seem unlikely, but so true! Aaaand to prove it, we have a little sneak peek of our new song for you! And feel free to watch our last music video below as well. You really should, and then stand in awe, because it is awe-some!

Lots of love!

Music maestro!

Hi!

We just wanted to let you guys and girls know that we are working on our music again! In between other things of course, because we still have to go to school and/or make money, but still! It's great to be feeling those creative vibes again, and actually being able to do something with them! We're still going through a 'practising' phase though. It's been so long since we've used all these computer programs, and we kind of have to figure out how they work again. But making music is one of our favourite ways to pass the time, and so we don't mind clicking a button here and there and sometimes accidentally erasing the whole project or whatever. The process of making the music is why we do it, and the result.. Well that's nice to have too of course!

Check out our colourful arrangement for The Yellow Tree, do you like it (uhuh)?

And in case you're thinking "huh, music, what?" we make music which you can listen to here! Below is one of our oldest demo versions of "I Like It", with a lot of pictures from us at school. It's so strange to hear it, because we have much more recent versions... Don't worry, it will be uploaded when it's finished! And sorry for the blurry pictures.. Check out some better quality images on our old blog here and here! Ahh nostalgia..

Enjoy, and lots of love from
Tall and tiny

Have a Horrible Halloween!

AAAAAARGH WE'RE BEING KILLED!

Just kidding! Happy Halloween everyone!

We made this song for Halloween two years ago. You know the Where's Wally books right? Well, the thing is, he always looks so happy and carefree. But there is this one picture where he is in a creepy vampire world. We were wondering what it must be like for him to be on that page, and that's basically what the song is about! We hope you enjoy it, and that you have a horrible, sleepless night! Yay!

You Youtube TNT

Hello boys and girls!

We'd like to remind you of the fact that we are still a band. Yes, we know, we haven't made a lot of new music lately. As we've said before, this is because we are living in different cities and are kind of preoccupied with school and work etc. Boooo! Yes, boo that.

But please, keep yourself wonderfully entertained with our existing songs and videos on our youtube channel HERE! It includes some demo recordings, the 'Sold His Soul' music video, a couple of live versions and some funny videos we made throughout our time together! And don't forget: everything we do, we do it our way.

Lots of ,
Tall and tiny
