DIY - Wardrobe made out of moving boxes

Hi there!

I used to have this beautiful Ikea pax wardrobe with 4 doors, but I moved to a smaller studio and couldn't bring it with me because it was too high for the new ceiling! I needed an extra wardrobe (the wardrobe that came with the studio was far from being able to fit both my boyfriend and my clothes in it), so I decided to make a temporary wardrobe out of boxes that I still had from moving to the new place while looking for a new one. Well, after 3 months, the diy wardrobe is still alive and I decided to keep it, since it's super practical and only needed for another year till we move out to a different place with higher ceilings!

What do you need?
* moving boxes
* tape
* stanley knife or scissors
* big piece of lace or other fabric to cover the whole wardrobe (optional)

some extra tips to make the wardrobe last longer:

* make sure the boxes are leaning against a wall or other wardrobe, this makes the whole thing more stable. (Mine is  leaning against the wall and another wardrobe at the right side)
* fold boxes to make an extra layer in between the rows (as seen in picture 1). This is where you might need a stanley knife or some scissors to make them fit.
* Don't cut off the top part of the boxes (the part where you usually would open the box), fold this into the box.
* the piece of lace will prevent sunlight or dust damaging your clothes.

Noun \ Fem・i・nism

Hi everyone!

I usually don't spend money on magazines, since they are just full of expensive clothes I can't buy anyway. ;) But this month I saved up for the UK ELLE because it was a special 'feminist edition'. And I can tell you: you should buy it. It's really good. There are several articles in there, including an interview with Emma Watson. I love it, because a couple of years ago, feminism had kind of died out, yet now it seems that girls (and boys) around the world are becoming interested in the topic again.

I think it's all about redefining feminism. See, officially, this is what feminism means:

Yet so many people still see it as something entirely different: man-hating, aggressiveness, the complainings of the overdramatic, etc. Young girls don't like to identify themselves as feminists, because they think it puts them in a double postition: on the one hand it makes them feel vulnerable (because they would put themselves in the position of the oppressed), and on the other hand it makes them think they'd be aggressive (because it would force them to be man-haters). Girls like the idea of the strong Sex and the City girl who walks around New York in her Prada shoes as she quickly gets a coffee before work, and they often feel like being a feminist would undermine this dream of being a strong city girl. It doesn't. Being a feminist doesn't change the way you look, what you wear, what you do and how you do it. You don't 'become' a feminist by signing up and then wearing the official uniform and reciting the official slogan to everyone you see. See, the thing is: you probably already are a feminist, you just don't know it.

It's just a fact. There is still gender inequality. If you don't agree with this, stop reading and go google the issue. Or even better: go to the library and get some books, find some articles, read up on the situation. As Joss Whedon said in an interview: "(...) it's very clear that misogyny in our own culture — and not just where they perform genital mutilation and marry off 10-year-olds — runs so deep." If you are against gender inequality, you are a feminist.

Does this make you anti-man? No! You are not against men! And also, gender inequality is men's issue too! How many guys feel like they can't cry in front of their friends and family, because it makes them unmanly? How many parents still feel like their sons shouldn't play with barbies?

I like the way Emma Watson, as well as Elle Magazine, help to redefine feminism, to make people see that it's not just about the struggle for women's rights, but about fundamentally changing our society and our way of thinking about gender. Below, you can watch Emma Watson's UN speech for the HeForShe campaign, as well as a funny (and incredibly intelligent) speech Joss Whedon gives about the word Feminist. This part of Watson's speech basically sums it all up for me:

Enjoy!

Magnificent Magenta

Hi!

I went to a (really fun!) Halloween party yesterday, and, since it's a Halloween party we all dressed up! I knew I didn't have the budget to go buy anything, so I started thinking about an easy and low budget costume. Since many costumes are all about the hair, and require you to get colouring spray or a wig, I decided to use my own hair as a starting point. Who has the same hair colour as me? Why, Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture Show does! Columbia would have been even better, since she has shorter hair (like I do), but her costume was just too hard to make without having to buy anything. Magenta however, was quite easy! All you need is a black dress, and a white apron (which you can make out of old curtains yourself). I made a little cap out of an old tablecloth, and borrowed some of my mom's old shoes.

For the hair, I washed it and dried it. But even though it seems dry, it never really is. When I put my hair in a ponytail after drying it, it always looks ridiculous when I take the ponytail out afterwards. So I washed it, dried it, and then made lots and lots of little braids. Then, I went over the braids with a flat iron and sprayed a lot of hairspray on them. And then it was waiting time. I left the braids in for a long time (about 5 hours I think) and in the meantime I did all the rest! I put some dark red nail polish on, and used a sponge (nothing fancy, just a kitchen sponge) do dab some white face paint om my face (for the pale look). Then I used this little thing I found on pinterest for the make up (which I found quite accurate):

Next, all I had to do was take the braids out and tadaa! I was done! I think it worked out pretty well! I can't show you my full outfit, because I don't have high quality pictures of that, but I did take this one with my photobooth, so you can see how it worked out. =)

Let's do the timewarp again!

Pumpkin Wars

Hi everyone!

I really wanted to carve my own pumpkin this year, but they are so expensive... My boyfriend and I have decided that we are definitely going to do one next year. But, since I won't have my own pumpkin this year, I've decided to settle with admiring other people's pumpkins. I found these wonderful Star Wars themed pumpkins online, don't you love them? I do!

Happy halloween

Have a Horrible Halloween!

AAAAAARGH WE'RE BEING KILLED!

Just kidding! Happy Halloween everyone!

We made this song for Halloween two years ago. You know the Where's Wally books right? Well, the thing is, he always looks so happy and carefree. But there is this one picture where he is in a creepy vampire world. We were wondering what it must be like for him to be on that page, and that's basically what the song is about! We hope you enjoy it, and that you have a horrible, sleepless night! Yay!

Knights of the Old Republic

Hi everyone!

Today I'm reviewing Knights of the Old Republic. It’s a Star Wars game. Now, I don’t know how you feel about Star Wars. Some people (like me) are obsessed with it, when others think it’s stupid and/or boring as hell. Star Wars aside, you don’t HAVE to love Star Wars in order to love this game. So even if you’re not a fan, keep reading!

Okay, like many games, it takes a while before you really get into it. But once you do, it’s awesome! You start out on a crashing spaceship and you have to escape. This is basically a very long tutorial. Most stupid part of this tutorial is you DON’T have a lightsaber yet. You’re not even a jedi yet. So that’s a bit of a disappointment. Nevertheless, keep reading!

Once you get past this part it just gets better and better. Lightsabers in all kinds of colors, many different planets to explore, so many NPC’s to get to know and ofcourse, your quest! The fighting in the game is turn-based. At first I thought I wouldn’t like it (because I prefer hack ‘n slash games) but it’s really nice. And if you don’t like it, you can actually just unpause the game and hack ‘n slash anyway. A little harder, but it works just fine.

What do I like most about this game (apart from pink lightsabers)? I think the NPC’s and the story. You really get into this game. You can choose how you let your character develop. Will you be a light side jedi? Or will you join the dark side's sith? You also have followers with you who have their own story and who you can have quite the conversation with. Also, you can personalize everyone by letting them level up and choose upgrades, powers, attributes and skills for them. Last but not least: you can play as a male or a female character, which I really appreciate. Seriously, it's ridiculous how many games don't give you that option.

Ofcourse, this game is a little out-dated, so don’t expect Assassin’s Creed-like graphics. But still, it’s really not bad! And ofcourse, if you ARE a Star Wars fan, this game is a must-play!

Below a couple more pictures, to show you guys what the game looks like, as well as a gameplay tutorial I found on youtube (in which the player really uses the turn-based system, but like I said, you don’t have to play it that way!). Enjoy, and may the force be with you!

Giggle time: Chaplin and Keaton

Hi guys and girls!

Did you enjoy the post I wrote about the first narrative films? I have another post about film for you! This time I'm sharing some of the best classic humor with you. Yes, I mean Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton!

Here is a scene from Modern Times (1936) in which Chaplin shows off his roller skating skills, amazing!

And here is a scene from Steamboat Bill Jr. (1928) where Buster Keaton proves that he has a lot of guts! See, the house that falls down on top of him is made of actual wood. It was measured so that it would land with the window safely around him, but still, kind of dangerous don't you think? Also, I think it's hilarious when he's in the mud and can't go forward anymore. We had to watch this scene in film history class and it was so silent there! I had a really hard time containing my laughter! Enjoy!
